Easier PV system planning: SMA and Renusol connect their planning tools

Niestetal/Cologne, June 2021 – SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) and Renusol Europe GmbH, a quality manufacturer of PV mounting systems, are connecting their online planning tools for PV roof mounting and system design. Installers will now be able to access the mechanical and electrical planning data of over 100,000 different PV modules as they configure their PV systems. The interface between the Renusol PV Configurator 3.0 and the SUNNY DESIGN inverter design tool also saves users from having to enter data multiple times and reduces the amount of work involved in planning.

“By connecting the planning tools, we are making it far easier for solar power professionals and installers to plan their PV systems, while simplifying the transfer of layout changes,” said Dr. Thomas Straub, Senior Product Manager SUNNY DESIGN at SMA. “The integrated system combines installation planning and design of both PV and battery systems, thus providing an optimized workflow. This saves our customers time and money.”

“It is important to us that we are continuously making the PV planning process easier and more efficient, true to our corporate slogan ‘Simple. Solid. Service.’,” explained Marko Balen, Product Manager at Renusol Europe. “Joining forces with SMA and combining our two excellent services has enabled us to create added value for our customers. Alongside a project report and mounting overview, the PV Configurator 3.0 also contains a geodatabase that automatically calculates the relevant wind and snow loads. The PV Configurator 3.0 also incorporates wind tunnel tests, the Eurocode safety concept and a number of static tests.“

At www.pv-configurator.com, PV system planners can generate a full project report on planning a PV system, complete with all components including a mounting overview and detailed and transparent statics calculations with parameter documentation and a bill of materials, in just a few clicks of a button. There is also an extensive module database containing entries for over 100,000 PV modules, with each of the modules broken down by size and frame thickness and listed alongside their power data and datasheets.

In a subsequent step, it is possible to automatically transfer the system parameters to the SUNNY DESIGN inverter design tool. This prevents transfer errors. The SMA planning tool already contains all the location-related aspects such as mains voltage and legal stipulations. Users can then select suitable PV inverters for the planned design based on the data entered. SUNNY DESIGN also provides assistance with calculating the optimal cable size and selecting battery-storage systems.
